Documentation of Human Rights Violations on a Community by a Community

Violence and human rights abuses against sex workers are widespread. Because sex work is criminalised in most countries these violations occur without repercussions for the perpetrators. This two year project will focus on arming sex worker rights advocates with the digital tools to document human rights violations committed against them. Tactical Tech is partnering with Women's Network for Unity (WNU) in Cambodia and Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC) in India to help improve existing documentation methods and practices. We are exploring how emerging digital documentation technologies such as mobiles, video and social networking tools may be used by these communities and increase advocates ability to influence policies. Tactical Tech will also be working with WNU and DMSC on how the aggregated evidence can be presented in compelling and creative to increase their impact on awareness raising. If this effort is successful, Tactical Tech will look at how this work might be replicated in other marginalized communities.
