In just 19 days, The Glass Room welcomed nearly 19,000 visitors, including over 1,800 on a single Saturday, with queues that stretched to nearly 60 people on the exhibition's final days. The Glass Room hosted 37 events and 35 Ingenius workshops, with a total of almost 2,000 attendees. The Glass Room is a public intervention that aims to demystify technology through immersive, thought-provoking, self-learning exhibitions. The Glass Room began as a large scale exhibition, traveling from Berlin to New York, London and San Francisco between 2016 and 2019. Each Glass Room took the form of a space designed to look like a sleek tech shop, but where nothing was for sale. Instead, visitors found a place where they could freely and critically discuss technology. The objects presented explored data, privacy and our relationship to the technologies and platforms which have become so commonplace in our everyday lives. Artworks produced as part of these larger Glass Room exhibitions are still touring around the world, with a current exhibition in Austria. Ono is a new a member of Tactical Tech's “Securing Advocacy” team. He is a friend of information users on a mission to explain how digital technology and communication might be putting them in danger. He is a robot created to spy on information users who is now using his abilities to help them instead. ONO is part of "Survival in the Digital Age", an animation series we've produced to raise awareness about the risks of using new technologies, and change the behaviour of information users. Ono's first job was at Highway Africa in Grahamstown, South Africa last week. That's all we can tell you right now. Obviously he is, by nature of his line of work, a very private individual. Currently she is a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She co-founded Tactical Tech in 2003 which undertook pioneering work on digital security and privacy and is now the largest international NGO at the forefront of capacity building and public education on technology and civil society. Stephanie co-curated the ground breaking touring exhibition, the Glass Room; enabling over 200,000 people worldwide to reflect on their relationship with technology and its impact on their environment. In parallel, she now trains, teaches and consults on technology and design ethics. Stephanie was an Affiliate at Berkman Klein Centre for Internet and Society, Harvard University; a Visiting Industry Associate the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University; and awarded an Ashoka fellowship for her work as a social entrepreneur. Stephanie has a degree in History of Design from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Masters degree in Computer Related Design from the Royal College of Art, London. Their social, learning and play spaces are being encroached upon by ubiquitous technologies so that the divide between public and private, online and offline is being eroded. The What the Future Wants project seeks to define and address these challenges alongside young people and those that support them.
